● About

The Cradle of Wilderness

Since the late 1800s, Trappers Lake Lodge has served as a gateway to Colorado’s most pristine backcountry. Located 51 miles from the nearest town and nestled at 9,600 feet within the Flat Tops Wilderness, we are the birthplace of the American wilderness concept. In 1919, conservationist Arthur Carhart stood on these shores and declared the area too beautiful for development—a decision that inspired the 1964 Wilderness Act.

Today, we honor that legacy by offering a place to truly disconnect. Whether you’re staying in one of our original 19th-century cabins or casting a line for native Cutthroat trout in the state's second-largest natural lake, Trappers Lake Lodge is where history and high-country adventure meet.
